The carbon footprint

Carbon dioxide or CO2 is a gas that exists in nature and is necessary for the balance of the planet. Since the industrial revolution (18th century), however, the concentration of this gas in the earth’s atmosphere has been increasing exponentially due to the use of fossil fuels, such as oil, among other products. This fact has caused great imbalances on the planet, until reaching the current situation of climate emergency.

The so-called carbon footprint is the environmental indicator that establishes the ecologically productive surface needed to supply the basic matter and energy to indefinitely cover the resource consumption and waste assimilation needs of a given population in a specific territory, according to their usual lifestyle. It refers to the amount of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions, directly or indirectly, that we produce when we do an activity.

January 28 World CO2 Reduction Day

This world day, which is also called Against Global Warming, aims to raise awareness of the impact that human action has on the environment and to promote effective action against climate change. Among other measures, the transition to renewable energy sources, cleaner industrial processes and a major change in society’s consumption trends are urgent. It is therefore about learning and assuming each person’s share of responsibility to achieve a more sustainable world.
